In June 2017, Georgia Tech was invited to Tongji University's annual international construction festival competition and I was one of five students finishing up their first year in architecture that was able to attend. The competition consisted of 54 teams from China and 10 international teams.  We were tasked to self construct a temporary spatial micro-community that was constructed from 30 pieces of plastic polypropylene sheets and nylon nodes. During the week of the competition it was a Shanghai summer thunderstorm so we wanted to play off of that. We created a space that you could experience the rain shedding away while being in a protected shelter. We ultimately ended up building and presenting inside but were able to see how our structure worked in action (see photo below).
